"HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL" : WHERE ARE THEY NOW

 High School Musical
 Released by Kim Potts/TV Squad

It was a mere five years ago, on Jan. 20, 2006, that 'High School Musical' hit the Disney Channel airwaves, making Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens the king and queen of the teen dream set, becoming the most successful movie in the cable network's history, nabbing a pair of Emmys and sparking TV and big-screen sequels, all along the way to becoming a true pop culture phenomenon.

Zac EfronZac Efron
(Troy Bolton)
Then:
Efron was BMOC Troy was the captain of the East High basketball team, which was coached by his dad, Jack. He also happened to have quite the song and dance skills, a fact that he kept hidden from his family and friends, until he and the beautiful Gabriella accidentally audition for the school's musical. Eventually, and despite pressure from his friends and dad, Troy decides to attend college near Gabriella, and to pursue both basketball and theater.

Since then: He graduated high school the year 'High School Musical' was released, and deferred his admission to the University of Southern California to continue pursuing his Hollywood career. Two 'HSM' sequels also revolved around his Troy character, and a considerably more buff Efron has continued to stir buzz with his performances in 'Hairspray,' 'Me and Orson Welles' and 'Charlie St. Cloud.'

Coming soon: His real-life romance with on-screen 'HSM' girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens is reportedly off, but, even after dropping out of the lead role in the upcoming 'Footloose' remake, he has a slate of nearly a dozen upcoming films, including 'The Lucky One,' adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, for which the actor gained 18 pounds to play a veteran of the war in Iraq; the romantic comedy 'New Year's Eve,' co-starring Robert De Niro and reportedly featuring cougar love between Efron and Michelle Pfieffer; and the 'Romeo and Juliet'-ish 'Die in a Gunfight.'

Vanessa HudgensVanessa Hudgens
(Gabriella Montez)
Then:
Hudgens was academic-minded Gabriella, who moved to East High in the middle of the school year, and quickly bonded with Troy and her new BFF, and fellow grades geek, Taylor. Gabriella also proved to be a talented singer and dancer, which did not endear her to plotting rich chick Sharpay, but Gabriella won the heart of Troy, performed in the school musical and excelled on the scholastic decathlon team, too, before heading off to Stanford in 'HSM.'

Since then: She released a pair of albums, including one that was certified gold, and weathered a couple of scandals when nude photos of her were released on the Interwebs without her permission. She also starred in the movie 'Bandslam' and was a spokesperson for Neutrogena and Mark Ecko, and was on Maxim and FHM's sexiest women alive lists, as well as Forbes magazine's "High Earners Under 30" list.

Coming soon: Her on-again, off-again relationship with Efron has made both the young stars tabloid staples, but 2011 will see the release of her much-anticipated 'Beauty and the Beast'-ish 'Beastly' movie, as well as the Zack Snyder 'Sucker Punch.' Hudgens is also co-starring in the upcoming 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' sequel 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' with Michael Caine, Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson and Luis Guzman.

Ashley TisdaleAshley Tisdale
(Sharpay Evans)
Then:
The Tis may not have been the main female lead in the 'High School Musical' flicks, but she sure seemed to be the one having the most fun. Her self-absorbed, spoiled rich girl Sharpay was all about the fashion and the drama, and especially combining the two to be the center of attention. Her specific path to make all the East High heads turn was trying to land the lead in all school musicals, and woe to the person who purposefully or otherwise stood in her way, and since nice girl Gabriella had serious performance skills of her own, as well as the attention of hottie Troy, she was frequently the target of Sharpay's ire. Tisdale says she looked to Rachel McAdams' performance in 'Mean Girls' as inspiration for playing Sharpay.

Since then: Tisdale is currently co-starring with fellow Disney alum Aly Michalka in The CW cheerleading dramedy 'Hellcats' ...

Coming soon: ... and will also reprise her role as Sharpay in the Disney Channel spin-off movie 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure.' The direct-to-DVD flick, which premieres on DVD on April 19 and on the Disney Channel on May 20, finds Sharpay post-graduation, still fabulously attired and now trying to land a role on Broadway. 'Degrassi' star Lauren Collins co-stars, while Tisdale is also the movie's executive producer, and, with Relativity Media, is developing a Bravo reality series called 'Miss Advised.'

Corbin BleuCorbin Bleu
(Chad Danforth)
Then:
Bleu was Troy's BFF and East High basketball teammate Chad, who stepped in with an "intervention" when his pal was focusing on the school musical instead of the big game. He and Troy make up, and then Chad starts dating Taylor, who he takes to the prom in 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year.'

Since then: Bleu, who originally auditioned for the role of Ryan Evans, is a singer and actor who has guest starred on 'The Good Wife' and 'Hannah Montana,' and starred in the short-lived CW drama 'The Beautiful Life,' with Mischa Barton. In 2010, he starred in the Tony-winning Broadway musical 'In the Heights.'

Coming soon: Later this year, he co-stars with '90210'-er Shenae Grimes in the big-screen drama 'Sugar.'

Lucas GrabeelLucas Grabeel
(Ryan Evans)
Then:
Grabeel played Ryan, the fraternal twin, and frequent right-hand man of dirty work, to sis Sharpay. Though a talented singer and dancer who often starred with his sis in the school musicals (and liked to sport fancy hats), he's also a talented athlete, and a much kinder teen than his sib. In the second movie, when Sharpay abandons their partnership to co-star with Troy, Ryan steps out of her shadow and co-stars with Gabriella, eventually winning the Star Dazzle Award at the talent show.In the third movie, Ryan attends the prom with Kelsi and wins a scholarship to Juilliard.

Since then: Grabeel, who graduated from the same Missouri high school -- Kickapoo High in Springfield -- as Brad Pitt, has guest starred on series like 'The Cleveland Show,' 'Family Guy,' 'CSI,' 'Veronica Mars' and, most recently, 'Smallville,' where he played a young Lex Luthor. Grabeel also played photographer and Harvey Milk supporter Danny Nicoletta in the Oscar-winning flick 'Milk.'

Coming soon: He co-stars with Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris in writer/director Dustin Lance Black's 'What's Wrong with Virginia.'

Monique ColemanMonique Coleman
(Taylor McKessie)
Then:
She was smartie Taylor, president of the science club, eventual editor of the yearbook, and, in the third flick, Yale University student-to-be. Taylor also bonded with Gabriella after finding out she had also accomplished much in her academic pursuits before landing at East High.

Since then: She has guest starred on 'Bones' and 'The Cleveland Show,' hosts her own online talk show, 'Gimme Mo',' and finished in fourth place -- behind Joey Lawrence, Mario Lopez and winner Emmitt Smith -- on the third season of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Coming soon: The dramedy film 'We Are Family,' in which she co-stars with 'The Apprentice' vet Omarosa.

Kaycee StrohKaycee Stroh
(Martha Cox)
Then:
Stroh, a dance teacher who took some of her students to audition for 'HSM' and was then asked by director Kenny Ortega to audition herself, played Martha, a member of East High's decathlon team who revealed she also loved to dance hip-hop. Martha also worked at the country club with the rest of the gang in 'High School Musical 2,' and went to the prom with Jason in 'High School Musical 3.'

Since then: She's guest starred on 'The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,' and lost 29 pounds, the third biggest weight loss, on the seventh season of VH1's 'Celebrity Fit Club,' where she was teammates with Kevin Federline. Stroh also got married in 2009, with 'HSM' co-stars Efron, Hudgens, Tisdale, Grabeel, Coleman, Olesya Rulin, Chris Warren Jr., Ryne Sanborn and director Ortega all in attendance.

Coming soon: She continues to be a model and spokesperson for Torrid plus-size clothing stores and recently guest-starred on FX's comedy 'The League.'

Bart Johnson
(Jack Bolton)
Then:
Johnson was East High basketball coach Jack Bolton, also the father of hoops star Troy. Coach Bolton wasn't always happy with Troy's decisions -- to try out for the school musical or to attend the University of California at Berkley -- but he always found his way towards supporting his son's ambitions in the end.

Since then: He's guest starred on 'Eve' and 'Las Vegas.'

Coming soon: Johnson is a producer and co-star in the upcoming vampire dramedy 'Immortality Bites,' and is rumored to be starring in the next 'HSM' movie. He also has a role in the upcoming TNT drama series 'Bird Dog,' starring Gerald McRaney and Ashley Williams.

Olesya RulinOlesya Rulin
(Kelsi Nielsen)
Then:
Rulin played East High's musical wiz Kelsi, who wrote songs for the winter musical. Despite her obvious talents, Kelsi was often intimidated by snooty Sharpay, though, in the end, it was Kelsi and Sharpay's bro, Ryan, who won the coveted spots at Juilliard.

Since then: Rulin starred in 'Major Movie Star,' the flick that didn't make a major movie star out of its lead, Jessica Simpson, and has guest-starred on 'CSI: Miami' and 'The Mentalist.' Currently, she plays Abby, the Zeta Beta pledge class president, on ABC Family's college dramedy 'Greek.'

Coming soon: She stars in the indie comedy 'A Family Weekend,' in which she plays a teen who holds her parents (played by Matthew Modine and Kristin Chenoweth) hostage so they'll pay attention to her.

Chris Warren Jr.Chris Warren Jr.
Zeke Baylor
Then:
He was East High basketball player Zeke, who, after pal Troy revealed he was a jock with a fondness for singing and dancing, revealed that he had a secret love, too: Baking!

Since then: He's guest starred on 'The Bernie Mac Show' and Disney Channel's 'Luck Charlie,' and he co-starred in 'Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel' on the big screen. Most recently, he played RJ nemesis Patterson on MTV's 'The Hard Times of RJ Berger.'

Coming soon: He's expected to return for season two of 'RJ Berger.'

Ryne SanbornRyne Sanborn
Jason Cross
Then:
He was Jason, Wildcat basketball star, friend of Troy and Chad and the guy known for asking silly questions in class.

Now: Since starring in 'HSM 3,' Sanborn -- who was named after professional baseball star Ryne Sandberg -- has been focusing on his hockey career. The Utah native, who aspires to play on the U.S. Olympic hockey team, travels around the country participating in the sport.

Coming soon: He's participating in the Luc Robitaille Celebrity Shoot Out all-star charity hockey event in Park City, Utah on Jan. 23.

"BOSOM BUDDIES" : WHERE ARE THEY NOW

 Released by Kim Potts/TV Squad

Tom HanksTom Hanks
Kip Wilson/Buffy

Hanks was graphic artist Kip, who, with BFF and aspiring writer Henry, dressed up as ladies -- Buffy and Hildegarde -- to land a cheap apartment at a hotel for women. Kip and Henry, who pretended to be Buffy and Hildegarde's brothers, also worked together at an ad agency, and started their own agency in the second season.

As for post-'Buddies, you may have heard a thing or two about this young actor after the show was canceled. You know, about those little back-to-back Oscars he won for 'Philadelphia' and 'Forrest Gump' ... things like that.

Actually, post-'Buddies,' Hanks has continued to be a TV presence, including his stint as the embezzling, drunken Uncle Ned who Alex P. Keaton idolized on 'Family Ties,' producing and starring in the miniseries 'From the Earth to the Moon' and 'Band of Brothers,' producing and narrating HBO's most recent World War II epic, 'The Pacific,' hosting 'Saturday Night Live' eight times and producing the HBO series 'Big Love.'

The Emmy/Oscar/Golden Globe winner's big-screen accomplishments are also numerous, including Oscar-nominated performances in 'Big,' 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Castaway,' voicing cowboy Woody in the 'Toy Story' flicks, starring as one half of one of the greatest romantic comedy couples ever, with Meg Ryan, in 'Joe Versus the Volcano,' 'Sleepless in Seattle' and 'You've Got Mail,' producing movies like 'Mamma Mia!' and 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding,' writing, directing and starring in the infectious pop music flick 'That Thing You Do!' and starring in and/or producing upcoming flicks like the film adaptation of the bestselling book 'The Story of Edgar Sawtelle,' a musical co-produced with Michael Stipe and with tunes penned by Barry Manilow and producing the film adaptation of the Tony-winning Green Day Broadway musical 'American Idiot.'

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Hanks is the most bankable Hollywood actor of all time, with his films having earned more than $3.9 billion.

Peter ScolariPeter Scolari
Henry Desmond/Hildegarde

Henry, who went along with Kip's plan because his friend convinced him the experience of living at the Susan B. Anthony would make a great book, also launched an ad agency -- Sixty Seconds Street -- with Kip in season 2. Also at the beginning of the second season, Henry and Kip's ruse was revealed, though they were allowed to continue living, in drag, at the hotel.

As for Scolari's post-'Bosom Buddies' career, he won three Emmy nominations as the hyper producer of Dick's TV show on 'Newhart,' also starred in the TV series adaptation of 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' and guest starred on shows like 'King of Queens,' 'ER,' 'The West Wing' and 'Big Love.' He has also recently been heard on the radio touting The Boston Medical Group.

On the big screen, he has continued to occasionally collaborate with Hanks, with roles in Hanks flicks 'That Thing You Do!' 'The Polar Express' and the upcoming Hanks/Julia Roberts/Bryan Cranston dramedy 'Larry Crowne.'

Wendie Jo SperberWendie Jo Sperber
Amy Cassidy

Amy was not only Kip and Henry's ad agency co-worker, but, for a while, she was the only one privy to their Buffy/Hildegarde secret. She also had a big crush on Henry.

Sperber, who also co-starred with Hanks in 'Bachelor Party,' played Linda McFly in 'Back to the Future' and had a recurring role on the TV series adaptation of 'Private Benjamin.' She married and had two children, and survived a bout with breast cancer, while continuing to work on TV shows like 'Will & Grace,' 'Home Improvement' and 'Grounded for Life,' but her cancer returned and she died in November 2005.

Her last works included 'Roger 'n' Me' and an episode of 'American Dad,' as well as continuing to work with weSPARK, the cancer-support organization. Sperber's commitment to the group, which has been supported by her celeb pals Tom Hanks, Eric McCormack and Bryan Cranston, was documented by filmmaker Beth Murphy in the documentary 'The Show Must Go On.'

Donna DixonDonna Dixon
Sonny Lumet

Nurse, model and dance Sonny was the object of Kip's affection, and one of the main reasons he decided to live at the Susan B. Anthony, where Sonny was a resident. She finds out about his Buffy bit in season two, but forgives him for the scam.

Shortly after 'Buddies' wrapped, model and beauty pageant queen Dixon co-starred in 'Doctor Detroit' with funny guy Dan Ackroyd, and the two fell in love and were married. They co-starred again in the movies 'Spies Like Us' and 'The Couch Trip,' and have three daughters together.

Dixon's most memorable post-'Buddies' role was as Garth's dream woman in 'Wayne's World,' and she also guest starred on 'Who's the Boss,' 'Moonlighting' and 'The Nanny.'

Holland TaylorHolland Taylor

Ruth was Kip, Henry and Amy's boss at the ad agency, Livingston, Gentry & Mishkin, and she had a sneaky habit of taking credit for Kip and Henry's work whenever talking to her boss, the unseen Mr. Rubinowitz. In season 2, when Kip and Henry start Sixty Seconds Street, Ruth is their silent partner, albeit a silent partner with a big mouth.

'Buddies' may be the first primetime role fans remember Taylor from, though she was a daytime soap star on 'The Edge of Night,' where her evil character, Denise Norwood, was so rotten that she committed suicide just to frame her husband!

In primetime, she went on to star in 'The Naked Truth,' win an Emmy for her role as randy Judge Kittleson on 'The Practice' and earn four Emmy nominations for her role as Charlie Sheen's mom on 'Two and a Half Men.'

On the big screen, the sexy 67-year-old is best known for playing Reese Witherspoon's tough, but supportive Harvard Law School professor in 'Legally Blonde,' and, earlier this year, she, Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari, Donna Dixon and Telma Hopkins reunited as the cast of 'Bosom Buddies' at the TV Land Awards.

Telma HopkinsTelma Hopkins
Isabelle Hammond

A Susan B. Anthony resident in season one, aspiring singer Isabelle became the hotel's manager in season 2, where, after finding out about Kip and Henry's secret, she allowed them to remain (still in drag) residents.

Hopkins, who started her career as a back-up singer for Motown legends like the Four Tops and Marvin Gaye before becoming a member of the '70s pop group (and variety TV show stars) Tony Orlando and Dawn, continued her acting career post-'Buddies,' with roles as Nell Carter's BFF Addy on 'Gimme a Break!' Harriette's sister Rachel on 'Family Matters' and as Rachel True's mom on the UPN sitcom 'Half & Half.'

She also had recurring roles on 'The Hughleys' and 'Any Day Now,' and currently stars as Terry Crews' mom on the TBS sitcom 'Are We There Yet?' Fun fact about her singing career: She's the woman who shouts "Shut your mouth!" in the 'Shaft' theme song.

Lucille Benson
Lilly Sinclair

On 'Buddies,' she was season one's Susan B. Anthony hotel manager Lilly, who was among the many fooled by Kip and Henry's alter egos. Teacher-turned-actress Benson was a familiar face to TV viewers, with memorable guest spots on 'Little House on the Prairie,' 'Simon & Simon,' as Helen's mother on 'The Ropers' and as the mother of Roscoe P. Coltrane on 'The Dukes of Hazzard.' After her stint on 'Bosom Buddies,' she played Mrs. Elrod in 'Halloween II' and had a recurring role on 'Alice.' She died of liver cancer in Alabama in 1984.

Chris Thompson
'Bosom Buddies' executive producer/showrunner

Thompson says he was a shoplifting juvenile delinquent who also went through a booze-and-drugs phase before turning his attention to comedy writing, and he was a member of the 'Laverne & Shirley' writing staff when he was asked to steer the 'Bosom Buddies' ship. Post-'Buddies,' he was also a producer/writer on 'The Larry Sanders Show,' created the Tea Leoni sitcom 'The Naked Truth,' co-wrote the screenplay for the Whoopi Goldberg big-screen comedy 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' and produced and wrote the Alfred Molina sitcom 'Ladies Man' (which also featured Betty White) and one of the most underrated, hilarious skewerings of Hollywood ever in the Jay Mohr comedy 'Action.' Most recently, Thompson created the Disney Channel series 'Shake It Up!'

MISS TV GIRL QUITS "PRIVATE PRACTICE"

Released by Miss TV Girl

I really hate to say this but I am officially done with “Private Practice”. I am so over this show.  Last night’s episode is a pure example of why I can’t  continue to participate in the demise of a once quality program.

Charlotte’s rapist showing up at the hospital with a knife in his chest and we spend almost an hour on whether or night Sam will kill him for Charlotte, so that she may have some peace. What sort of peace would anyone have by killing this man, hell Sam has barely recovered from the last time he decided to kill a molester.  Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s move the next terrible storyline Pete ,Amelia, and the blind girl who wants  to keep her dead husband’s mother away from their child, she obviously needed help taking care. So, how does Pete help the patient, he and the patient convince the grandmother that the operation to restore her eyesight worked by lying. I am completely screaming on the inside.!!!!!!

By the way, I so hate the Amelia character.

Now for final scene of the night, Addison has this heart to heart with her mother  right before she commits suicide, that lacked any true emotion. Why?  I am sad to say, Kate Walsh inability to feel the words that are coming out of her mouth is really starting to get annoying and by the way I Love Kate Walsh.  I mean Jobeth Williams showed more emotion lying there dead.

SAY HELLO TO CHARLIE'S NEW ANGELS

 Released by Miss TV Girl

Sony TV has officially cast Mika Kelly, Annie Ilonzeh and Racheel Taylor as the three leads for the upcoming series reboot of "Charlie's Angels".

Kelly plays Marisa, a former marine and weapons expert trained in hand-to-hand combat. Abby, Taylor's character, is described as "the youngest and sassiest of the Angels. The beautiful and privileged daughter of a notorious Wall Street crook, she is an expert con artist herself, as well as a Krav Maga expert." Ilonzeh's character, Kate, is an ex-cop with some formidable martial arts skills.

As reported earlier, Robert Wager will be playing Charlie Townsend, the often heard but never seen  boss of the detective agency. No word yet on who will play Bosley, but expect to see a more handsome and distinguished guy.  The casting breakdown calls for a "GQ looks and a "Peter Pan" smile.

"Justified" returns Wednesday, February 9 for it's second season and boy am I excited.  I must admit due to the limited amount of quality programming on television , this is truly a welcomed return.
