MELISSA REEVES RETURNING TO DAYS OF OUR LIVES IN SEPTEMBER

Days of Our Lives fan fave Melissa Reeves has signed  on to reprise the role of Jennifer Deveraux in September.

Reeves was on the show from 1985-95, and returned after a five year absence, and stuck around from 2000-2006.  Reeves was recently seen on the soap during the death of Grandma Alice, played by the late Frances Reid and to support Hope(Kristian Alfonso) through  her breakup with Bo(Peter Reckell)

No word yet on if  her TV hubby and fellow fan fave Matt Ashford (Jack) will  also return.

ADRIENNE BARBEAU JOINS "GENERAL HOSPITAL"

 Adrienne Barbeau is joining ABC's  General Hospital as a tough-as-nails broad called Suzanne Stanwyck (best soap name ever!) who runs a charity agency for children in Italy.

Suzanne will be closely involved with Vanessa Marcil's  Brenda, we'll first see the women working together in Rome and they will eventually make their way to Port Charles together.

Barbeau will be around for several weeks at least, maybe longer.

Barbeau first appearance will air Thursday, August 12

GENRAL HOSPITAL LEADS DAYTIME EMMY NOMINATIONS

Congrats to my all time favorite soap opera "Genral Hospital" for nabbing 18 well deserved Emmy Awards nominations.  The ABC soap has won outstanding drama series more times than any other show. If anyone is counting and I am the number is 10.

I have watched and loved this soap opera for more than twenty years.  General Hospital abilty to never bore and stray into the absurdity that most soap operas tend to do is what makes this show a must see if you are a fan of the genre.  Now don't get wrong there is plenty of lying,backstabbing,crying, deaths and sleeping with the wrong people, I mean it is a soap opera..

My only issue with yesterdays announcement was the lack of acknowledgement shown to the amazing cast.  The absents of the magnificent Laura Wright(Carly) and Steve Burton(Jason) was very disapointing, but I am still happy for the other nominees from the show. I also feel that the show should have received a nomination in the Outstanding Drama Series Writing category.

 A win by Drew Garrett (Michael) in the outstanding younger actor category will be quite interesting, considering his surprise firing and eventual replacement by Chad Duell.

FIRST LOOK AT JULIANNE MOORE'S RETURN TO "AS THE WORLD TURNS"

Julianne Moore has filmed her cameo appearance on "As the World Turns".

Moore will reprise her character of Frannie Hughes on the April 5 episode, who returns to Oakdale for her father and stepmother's anniversary party.

Moore played Frannie (and her half-sister Sabrina) on "ATWT" from 1985-88, winning a Daytime Emmy for the role in her final year on the show.  Since leaving the soap opera she has gone on to have a very successful movie career, garnering four Oscar nominations and six Golden Globe nominatons, including one for this year's criticaly acclaimed "A Single Man"

"As the World Turns" will end its 54-year run on CBS later this year.

ABC FIRES "ALL MY CHILDREN" HEAD WRITER

Within a few weeks, All My Children will be turning over a new leaf, officially making the move west to new studios in Los Angeles. Most actors are making the move. Some are not. And today ABC informed the head writer, Charles Pratt Jr., that he's been let go. If he had his suitcases packed, well, sorry about that.

Chuck Pratt was hired with some fanfare in June 2008. He was a big hire because his resume is filled with flashy successes, including Desperate Housewives, Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, Ugly Betty, Santa Barbara and General Hospital, among others. Pratt was supposed to revive All My Children to its former luster, but -- alas -- it hasn't happened.

It's hard to say exactly what went wrong, but some of Pratt's seminal changes in the show have not been greeted with fan support. It was Pratt's decision to kill off Adam's sweet twin brother Stuart, a character that defined the word beloved when you're talking about Pine Valley characters. The reveal took months to unfold and it's been pretty torturous.

Fans on the message boards are thrilled with the news of Pratt's exit. They've been ticked off with his storylines and, apparently, the idea of a new writer guiding the new West Coast AMC is a popular one. Who that new head writer is, however, has

JAMES FRANCO "GENERAL HOSPITAL" PROMO

Here is the promo for James Franco guest stint on my favorite soap opera "General Hospital". I am so excited to see this storyline play out. The powers that be at "General Hospital" are still being very secretive about Franco's character.

What has been revealed is that he is an artist named Franco and he is definitely out to get Jason(Steve Burton).

Franco arrives on November 20th.

"DAYS OF OUR LIVES" :DAY OF DAYS EVENT COVERAGE

This week Miss Tv Girl was invited to be a part of a special online-media only event on the set of NBC's Days of our Lives.

During my set visit we were treated to lunch and a preview of Friday and Monday "Days" episode. There was also an opportunity to watch the actors film upcoming episodes on a live feed. I am unable to share what we saw, but it was very interesting watching the actors run their lines and do take after take.

Soon it was time to interview the cast, my first interview was with the charming Eric Martsolf(Brady Black), who discussed how he would prefer for his character to have more of backbone. He was soon followed by the tall and handsome Casey Deidrick(Chad Woods). My other interviews were with Taylor Spreitler(Mia),Molly Burnett(Melanie Layton) she is quite the little spitfire, great personality, Wally Kurth(Justin Kiriakis), whom I found to be quite charming and very likable, asked that I let my readers know about his upcoming cd (Kurth & Taylor Greatest Hits 1993-2010) release on December 1st . My last three interviews were with Lindsay Hartley(Arianna Hernandez),Shelly Hennig(Stephanie Johnson) and Mark Hapka(Nathan Horton).

The cast was so kind and generous with their time.

Casey and Molly gave us all a tour of the "Days" set, which was nice to see up close. Casey and Molly date in real life and seem to be the cutest and most in love couple ever. It is really darling to see the two together.

We all then took pictures and received a little "Days of our Lives" swag in the way of an apron from the "Brady 's Pub".

Day 2 was pretty much of the same, hours upon hours of interviewing. Once again the cast was more than friendly and open. There were so many fans out to show their love and appreciation for the show and the actors.

Miss TV Girl would like to thank NBC Universal and Days of Our Lives for allowing me the chance to participate in such a wonderful 2 day event to. I would like to also thank all of the actors for being so kind and available with their time.

I hope to see you "Days Of Our Lives" fans next year.

JAMES FRANCO CHECKS INTO "GENERAL HOSPITAL"

In the biggest casting shocker since Elizabeth Taylor appeared on General Hospital as Helena Cassadine, movie star James Franco is joining General Hospital for a couple of months as a mystery man who comes to Port Charles. Although not confirmed by the show, it's likely that Franco will be playing Vlad Cassadine, another member of that evil family that vexes the citizens of Port Chuck. His first airdate is November 20.

Why would Franco, who's busy with movies and has appeared in Spider-Man, The Pineapple Express, Milk and other hits, take a role on a daytime soap? There's no word from the actor yet, but it could be that they threw a lot of money at him. There's also the possibility that he's a soap opera fan and thought it would be a lark. Ummm, I'm thinking it's more likely the former.

ABC daytime, as all of daytime, is struggling to keep the ratings high. Surely a stunt like this will bring in viewers. That's not just on ABC; that's SoapNet, too, where GH is repurposed daily and on the weekends.

If Franco is Vlad Cassadine, he's already causing trouble. The character kidnapped Luke and imprisoned Helena (now played by Constance Towers). The good part will be Franco going toe to toe with Tony Geary.

SARAH BROWN MOVES TO "THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL"

You know, a few weeks ago when Sarah Brown blithely tweeted that she was leaving General Hospital, acting all la-di-da about losing a job, it should have been a tip-off that she had something cooking somewhere else. Today we learned what that something else is. Sarah Brown is joining The Bold and the Beautiful on November 6. Talk about a cushy landing! Oh, and her last day on GH is November 5, so there's no time for daytime fans to miss her.

The latter situation is quite unusual for daytime. But ABC agreed to release Brown from her contract early so she could make the swift transition. B&B executive producer Bradley Bell was thrilled and surprised. "I was stunned. It was something really very human and very big of them," he said.

On B&B, Sarah's going to be a good girl, at least initially. She'll be playing Sandy Sommers, a new character on the canvas. Sandy is described as "goodhearted," which is the anti-thesis of her GH viper, Claudia Zacchara. Claudia is a mob princess who has ordered lethal hits on her enemies. It's still to be determined if Claudia will simply be written off with a move away from Port Charles or if GH head writer will have Claudia rubbed out as retribution for her evil doings?

Sandy, on the other hand, is not a murderess... at least not yet. She's going to be a player, though, getting in the middle of happily married Nick and Bridget. She's also going to get involved with Whip, played by Brown's former GH costar Rick Hearst. Sounds like fun!

WILL "THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS" SAY GOODBYE TO VICTOR NEWMAN?

Is it even possible to imagine The Young and the Restless without Eric Braeden as hero/villain Victor Newman? You would think not, but then Days of Our Lives moved on without Deidre Hall as Dr. Marlena Evans, didn't it? Still, Braeden and his alter ego Victor is still a front and center presence on the show, an integral part of the storytelling. Therefore, the news that The Young and the Restless is contemplating killing off Victor if they cannot resolve the contract dispute with Braeden is a shocker.

Braeden is working now under a contract that lasts till 2010, and his reps have said that he would take a pay cut once the term is up. However, producers are asking him to take a pay cut now. That, my friends, is the rub. Braeden wants to help the show stay on the air, but he's not ready to take an economic hit until he has to. That's understandable.

Of course, the show has the power to simply write him out or recast. The latter would be very difficult because the Victor Newman character is larger than life, and Braeden's been the only actor to ever play the role. He's been on the soap since 1980. Currently, the character has been shot three times and is going to need a heart transplant to survive. He will get the heart and go on vacation with Nikki (Scott's character). She could return with a new actor in the role, or he could die off screen.

Hmm ... if you were thinking like a producer looking to cut your losses, this would be the perfect opportunity to kill off the character. He even has an evil son, Adam, who might be able to grow into the role of the next villain you love to hate. Also, Y&R has put out a casting notice for a character named Tucker who sounds very much like Victor. Was Tucker just a covert way to conduct a recast?

My guess is that a compromise will be reached and Braeden will remain on the show. It's a cold, cruel world out there and Eric's too smart to give up a good gig on the number one rated daytime drama. Of course, I thought Deidre would remain with Days, too, so go figure!

"GUIDING LIGHT" FINAL GOODBYE: STARS LOOK BACK ON FAVE SCENES

A piece of television history comes to an end today when Guiding Light airs its last episode. After 72 years, TV’s longest-running drama succumbed to declining ratings but it hasn’t dimmed the ardor of longtime fans who hoped that another network would air the show and who devoted pages to eulogizing the show in the countdown to the final episode. And they are not alone in their love. The show’s stars have been making their own peace with the end of GL. Here Kim Zimmer, Beth Chamberlain, and Grant Aleksander share some their favorite memories.

Kim Zimmer

“It wasn’t just a scene, it was the whole arc of the Josh and Reva first wedding. It was shot on location and the whole cast spent 3 glorious days together gathered for the events leading up to and including the ceremony. It really felt as if we were all family. Not just the cast but the crew as well. It was a beautiful bonding time for all of us.”
“The second one was a very long monologue I had in a scene with Chris Bernau. [My character] Reva had just been humiliated at a Country Club party and left in a heap by the Lewis men. And Alan Spaulding (town bad guy) picked Reva up and took her back home where Reva exposed her vulnerability by telling Alan about a time in her youth when she was so hungry as a child that she ate garbage. It was a tough scene for me because of the massive amount of dialogue and it was also the first time that Reva was weak on the show.”

Beth Chamberlin

“The two scenes I remember the most are both scenes that mark the end of something, one personal and the other professional. The first is a nothing scene I had in the Towers restaurant set with Brittany Snow and Anthony Addabbo. The scene was basically about my character’s ongoing attempt to get Brittany’s character to accept me as stepmother. Brittany was crying that day and was having a hard time because she had gone to the hair room for a trim and the hairdresser had cut off 4 inches of her gorgeous hair. I remember feeling so bad for her. But, it wasn’t what happened on the set that made that scene significant; it was that an hour or so later Paul Rauch, the executive producer came to get me and bring me to his office. I didn’t know it but my husband and brother-in-law were there waiting to tell me my father had died suddenly of a massive heart attack. I later realized that as I was on the set in New York, my father was dying in my mother’s arms in Vermont. I didn’t know it but my life was changing forever at that moment and in that space.The other scene is a scene I had with the character of Phillip played by Grant Aleksander. The scene takes place following his father’s funeral. Beth (my character) is giving Phillip a journal and telling him to write down everything that happened, everything he is feeling. That is the final scene I shot on Guiding Light. It is not the last scene of mine that aired, but it is the last scene I shot. I remember just saying to myself, “Be present.” I knew my life was changing at this moment too. Not in the same devastating way as my father’s death, but in a significant way. I knew in a very real way life for me would never be quite the same. My Guiding Light family would exist no more.I think that is what is significant about the show, that so many people working for and watching this show for it’s 70+ years have experienced life’s passages with it. Scenes and story lines have connected with the events of our lives marking births and deaths, marriages and divorces, beginnings and endings.”

Grant Aleksander

“I will never forget my first scene in 1982 where I entered the Spaulding Mansion to find it deserted. It was the beginning of a 27-year relationship with Guiding Light that has given me some of the best times of my life. And I’ll never forget the last scene I taped on Aug. 11th with Beth Chamberlin in the Spaulding dining room because it was the last.”

SARAH BROWN TO EXIT "GENERAL HOSPITAL" AGAIN

Three-time Daytime Emmy winner Sarah Brown, who rejoined "General Hospital" as Claudia Zacchara, a different character in January, will be leaving the show in October

The actress relayed the news to her fans via Twitter, saying, "It's been nice being back at GH, but it's time for the character to come to an end, at least for me."

ABC has confirmed her exit from the soap.

I am personally a big fan of Sarah Brown and her stint as the original Carly. What she brought to that character and the chemistry between her and Steve Burton(Jason) was at the time and for the most part the best daytime television had to offer. I honestly still watch their scenes on YouTube.

Now, when I first heard that Sarah Brown was returning to "General Hospital" I didn't know
how to react because I have really enjoyed Laura Wright as the 4th and in my opinion the best actress to play the very popular character Carly. But then it was reported that she would not be playing the role of Carly, but that of Claudia Zacchara. To be very honest I never and I mean never really cared for that character and/or Sarah Brown in the role.

I will not miss Claudia at all, but I am sad to see Sarah Brown leave. Maybe she will return to prime time TV. I thought that she had made a great transition out of the soap world and I was a little surprise to see her return to "General Hospital".

Good Luck Sarah, and I hope to see you very soon in Primetime.

I only say Primetime because "General Hospital" is where I draw the line when it comes to watching soap operas. I can pretty much promise you once Steve Burton says Goodbye to the soap world I will follow.
