I guess those negotiations didn’t quite go his way. Chris Meloni who has played the often loose cannon sex crimes Detective Stabler will not be returning for season 13. Creator Dick Wolf , who we all know has no problem axing an actor and replacing them before you can blink is already looking for a big name to bring in opposite series regular Mariska Hargitay.
The season 12 series ended with Meloni’s character being forced to kill an armed teenage girl who had opened fire on her mother’s murderer (among others) in the SVU squad room. I am sure the trauma of that event will play heavily in explaining his departure .
Mariska Hargitay’s own deal to return for Season 13 remains unaffected
