ABC CANCELS DAYTIME SOAPS "ALL MY CHILDREN" AND "ONE LIFE TO LIVE"
Released by Rich Juzwiak/TV Guide.com
The reports are true: ABC has canceled All My Children and One Life to Live. Children will be abandoned in September, while One Life will die in January 2012. Both soaps are being replaced by health-related talk shows.
Upon hearing the news, Emmy winner Susan Lucci, who has starred on All My Children for the past four decades, released the following statement, “It's been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.”
In Children's place, ABC will slot The Chew, a one-hour live show centered on food and hosted by restaurateurs Mario Batali and Michael Symon, Top Chef's Carla Hall , What Not to Wear's Clinton Kelly and nutrition expert Daphne Oz. ABC says the Gordon Elliot (Paula's Home Cooking, Down Home with the Neelys) production will "focus on food from every angle — as a source of joy, health, family ritual, friendship, breaking news, dating, fitness, weight loss, travel adventures and life's moments." Sounds yummy, but is it as yummy as Children?
Meanwhile, come January, The Revolution will take up the space left by One Life. That show will feature Project Runway's Tim Gunn, trainer Harley Pasternak and Kimberly Locke, who completed in the second season of American Idol. These hosts and a revolving pool of contributors will "help viewers transform all areas of their lives, from relationships to family, food, style, home design, finance and more," according to ABC's announcement. The Revolution will also include a different woman's five-month weight-loss story rolled out over the course of each week's new shows.
General Hospital now stands as the last remaining daytime drama on ABC. The cancellation of these soaps follows the axing of CBS' Guiding Light and As the World Turns in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

NBC PULLING "PERFECT COUPLES"
Released by Miss TV Girl
I am very upset to announce that NBC has decided to pull the very funny freshman sitcom "Perfect Couples" from the schedule after April 7th. I have really enjoyed watching this comedy, but based on the ratings I think that I am practically the only one who feels this way about the comedy series.
"Perfect Couples" revolves around three very different young couples who are all messed up in all the normal ways. The comedy will be replaced by new comedy series "The Paul Reiser Show".
So after April 7th, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of "Perfect Couples". If NBC decides not to bring the series back I sure hope the unaired episodes are eventually posted online.

"ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT " : WHERE ARE THEY NOW
Released by Kim Potts/TV Squad
It's been five years since the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning family comedy 'Arrested Development' left the airwaves, and, though we say this with a little grain of salt, it looks like the long-rumored big-screen version of the series is finally a go, maybe even for later this year.
And while we can't wait to see those wacky Bluths back in action, it's not like the cast members have been sitting around twiddling their thumbs since the 'Arrested Development' finale aired on Feb. 10, 2006. In fact, they've been a pretty busy bunch, including many projects in which they've continued to be co-stars ...
The series' straight man (though he certainly had his share of hilarious moments), Michael was the Bluth family's second oldest son, and, far and away, the most responsible, ethical member of the whole clan. Since the 'Arrested Development' finale, Bateman has been hanging out mostly on the big screen, save providing the voice of gym teacher Larry Littlejunk in 'AD' creator Mitchell Hurwitz' short-lived Fox animated comedy 'Sit Down, Shut Up.'
In movieland, he has starred with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston in 'The Break-Up,' and Aniston again in the comedy 'The Switch.' He also co-starred in 'The Ex,' 'The Kingdom,' 'Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium,' 'The Promotion,' 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' 'Hancock,' 'The Invention of Lying,' Extract,' 'Couples Retreat' (again with Vaughn) and 'State of Play,' and had scene-stealing roles in 'Juno' and George Clooney's 'Up in the Air.'Next up, he has roles in the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy 'Paul,' another collaboration with Aniston in the comedy 'Horrible Bosses' and co-stars with Ryan Reynolds in the comedy 'The Change-Up.' In 2010, Bateman and 'Arrested Development' co-star Will Arnett also launched DumbDumb Productions, a company focused on creating cool digital advertising.
George Oscar "Gob" Bluth, Jr.: Oldest Bluth son, magician, womanizer (and father of teen Steve Holt), author of the "I've made a huge mistake" catchphrase and, of course, Segway rider. Gob was also married, briefly, to a seal dealer played by Arnett's real-life wife, 'Parks and Recreation' star Amy Poehler.
The funny couple have expanded their family with the birth of sons Archie and Abel, while in TV land, they once again co-starred when he guested on an episode of 'Parks and Recreation.'
Arnett has also made memorable appearances on '30 Rock,' as Jack Donaghy's corporate rival Devon Banks, co-starred with Bateman in 'Sit Down, Shut Up,' co-starred with fellow 'AD' star David Cross in the comedy 'The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret' and, earlier this TV season, co-starred with Cross and Keri Russell in the short-lived Fox comedy 'Running Wilde.'
On the big screen, Arnett has been just as busy, co-starring with Poehler in 'On Broadway,' 'Spring Breakdown,' 'Blades of Glory,' 'Horton Hears a Who,' 'The Borrowers' and 'Monsters vs. Aliens,' and also co-starring in the comedy flicks 'The Rocker,' 'Hot Rod,' 'The Comebacks' and 'Semi-Pro.' His distinctive voice has led to voicework in 'Despicable Me,' 'G-Force," Ratatouille' and 'Grindhouse,' as well as commercials for GMC and Lamisil. Up next, he stars in the comedy 'Goats,' as well as 'Space Invaders,' penned by fellow actor Justin Theroux.
The youngest son of the Bluth clan was also the most babied by mom Lucille, which led to Buster's awkward social interactions. He spent years studying everything from cartography to 18th century agrarian business principles, was a frequent participant in medical experiments and, to finally try to break free from his mother's control, dated his mom's much-older-then-him best friend, also named Lucille (Liza Minnelli).
As for Hale, he has remained busy on the tube and the big screen. He had a recurring role on 'Chuck,' as Buy More corporate toady Emmett Milbarge, and 'Numb3rs,' and co-starred with Andy Richter in the short-lived NBC comedy 'Andy Barker, P.I.' He also guest starred on 'ER,' 'Justified,' 'Community,' 'United States of Tara' and 'Human Target,' in music videos by Fall Out Boy ('Beat It') and Switchfoot ('Awakening') and starred in the NBC Web series 'Ctrl.'
At the movies, he's co-starred in 'RV' with Will Arnett, 'Unaccompanied Minors' with Jessica Walter, 'Stranger Than Fiction,' 'Because I Said So' and 'The Goods,' and next co-stars in the dramedy 'Happythankyoumoreplease,' written and directed by 'How I Met Your Mother' star Josh Radnor.
Manipulative mama Lucille took advantage of son Michael, tortured daughter Lindsay about her looks, largely ignored son Gob and infantilized son Buster, while always plotting to keep as much of her ill-gotten wealth as possible and abusing drugs, alcohol and her housekeepers.
In real life, Walter, who turned 70 in January 2011, has been just as busy. Since the 'AD' finale in 2006, she starred as grandma Tabitha Wilson on the first season of '90210,' and currently stars as spay mama Mallory Archer on the FX animated comedy 'Archer' and as retired -- and newly separated -- mama Elaine Robbins on the TV Land sitcom 'Retired at 35.'
She's also playing a randy widow who wants to hook up with Leonard on this week's 'Big Bang Theory,' and in April, she begins a stint on Broadway, playing -- what else? -- an overbearing mama, Evangeline Harcourt -- in a revival of 'Anything Goes.'
George Michael was the perfect son, student and worker -- he was "Mister Manager" at the Bluth banana stand -- but was plagued by shyness, nervousness and his forbidden-love crush on his cousin Maeby, who he kissed, and then found out he wasn't related to by blood, because her mother, Lindsay, was actually adopted.
Cera's understated performance, especially amidst such a talented adult cast, proved to be a huge breakout role for the Canadian actor, who has gone on to big-screen success in comedies like 'Superbad,' 'Juno,' 'Paper Heart,' 'Youth in Revolt,' 'Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist' and 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.'
He and best friend and 'Greek' star Clark Duke also created the Internet series 'Clark and Michael,' on which fellow 'AD'-ers David Cross, Tony Hale and Mitch Hurwitz have popped up, provides the voice of P.A. announcer Sal Viscuso on 'Children's Hospital,' and, as a musician, has recorded with Weezer, toured with Mister Heavenly and formed the band The Long Goodbye with Clark Duke.
Up next, Cera is producing a slacker sitcom, '13th Grade,' for FX, and will make guest appearances on the show.
Lindsay was the shallow, shopping-addicted Bluth sister, who, it was revealed in the series finale, had actually been adopted by the Bluths, who added her to their family only to keep a business rival family from adopting her.
As for her post-'AD' series career, de Rossi (birth name: Amanda Lee Rogers) played Julia's (Joely Richardson) girlfriend Olivia on 'Nip/Tuck' and starred as supercontrolling boss Victoria on ABC's sadly short-lived sitcom 'Better Off Ted.'
De Rossi also married longtime girlfriend and talk show hostess Ellen DeGeneres in 2008 (and legally changed her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres last year), and, in Nov. 2010, released the autobiography 'Unbearable Lightness,' in which she discusses her bout with anorexia and being diagnosed with lupus.
Lindsay's husband was a chief resident of psychiatry, until he lost his license, then decided it was his destiny to become an actor. Tobias' most hilarious trait was that he was a "never-nude," suffering from a condition in which he was terrified of being naked, and always wore a pair of cut-off shorts, no matter what his activity, underneath his clothes.
Post-'Arrested Development,' Cross published his first book, 'I Drink for a Reason,' co-starred with Will Arnett on 'Running Wilde,' and appeared in the Beastie Boys concert flick 'Awesome; I F**kin' Shot That!' and the Bob Dylan biopic 'I'm Not There.' He also guest-starred on 'Family Guy,' 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' and 'Important Things with Demetri Martin,' starred with Michael Cera in the movie 'Year One,' had movie roles in 'Megamind,' 'Alvin and the Chipmuks' and 'Kung Fu Panda,' and did voicework for the Jack Black videogame 'Brutal Legend.'Next up, he again provides the voice
for Master Crane in the 'Kung Fu Panda' sequel.
Known as Pop-Pop to his grandchildren, George Bluth was married to Lucille, who committed the business crimes, we learned in the series finale, for which George had served prison time. He escaped rom jail, faked his death and then hid out in a Bluth Company model home; at the end of the series, he joined Michael and George Michael in fleeing the family nest and hightailing it to Cabo.
As for Tambor, he has continued to be a frequent TV presence, co-starring with John Lithgow in the short-lived NBC comedy 'Twenty Good Years' and the short-lived CBS comedy, with Raquel Welch, 'Welcome to The Captain.' He's also Mr. Big on 'WordGirl,' guest starred on 'Archer' with Jessica Walter and 'Running Wilde' with Will Arnett and David Cross and has had roles in big-screen projects like 'The Hangover,' 'Monsters vs. Aliens,' 'Hellboy II,' 'The Invention of Lying' and 'Tangled.'
Up next, he co-stars with 'AD' son Jason Bateman in the March 18 comedy 'Paul.'
The teen daughter of Lindsay and Tobias, Maeby was given to trying outrageous antics to get the attention of her self-absorbed 'rents, including pretending to be a wheelchair-bound girl named Surely (get it?) to get donations from her classmates and pretending to be a movie studio executive, a fake job that she became successful, and famous, at.
Since 'Arrested Development' aired its series finale, Shawkat has had a recurring role on the short-lived USA series 'The Starter Wife' and guest starred on an episode of FX's 'The League,' and has had an active movie career that included roles in 'The Runaways' and 'Whip It.'
Up next, she co-stars with Ed Helms and John C. Reilly in the big-screen comedy 'Cedar Rapids,' has roles in the comedies 'That's What She Said' and 'The Oranges,' and is co-writing, co-producing and possibly starring in 'Stitch N' B*tch,' an HBO comedy series with friend and 'Whip It' co-star Ellen Page.
Howard was the show's executive producer and uncredited narrator, though he often referenced the show and himself while commenting on the Bluth's activities, like when Bluth publicist Jessie (Jill Ritchie) mockingly called George Michael "Opie," prompting Narrator to warn, "Jessie had gone too far, and had best watch her mouth."
In the series finale, Howard made his only on-camera appearance on the show, playing himself during a meeting with teen studio exec Maeby, and cleverly telling her that her life story would make a better movie than a TV show.
Since 'AD,' Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Howard has produced and/or directed flicks like 'Curious George,' 'The Da Vinci Code,' 'Changeling' and 'Frost/Nixon,' and is an executive producer on the TV series 'Parenthood.'
His latest directorial effort, the Vince Vaughn/Kevin James dramedy 'The Dilemma,' hit theaters in January, and up next, he's directing the movie adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower,' is producing 'Cowboys & Aliens' and 'J. Edgar' (with director Clint Eastwood and star Leonardo DiCaprio) and, it was rumored earlier this month, may be interested in directing a '24' movie after serving as a producer on the Kiefer Sutherland series.

"HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL" : WHERE ARE THEY NOW
Released by Kim Potts/TV Squad
It was a mere five years ago, on Jan. 20, 2006, that 'High School Musical' hit the Disney Channel airwaves, making Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens the king and queen of the teen dream set, becoming the most successful movie in the cable network's history, nabbing a pair of Emmys and sparking TV and big-screen sequels, all along the way to becoming a true pop culture phenomenon.
(Troy Bolton)
Then: Efron was BMOC Troy was the captain of the East High basketball team, which was coached by his dad, Jack. He also happened to have quite the song and dance skills, a fact that he kept hidden from his family and friends, until he and the beautiful Gabriella accidentally audition for the school's musical. Eventually, and despite pressure from his friends and dad, Troy decides to attend college near Gabriella, and to pursue both basketball and theater.
Since then: He graduated high school the year 'High School Musical' was released, and deferred his admission to the University of Southern California to continue pursuing his Hollywood career. Two 'HSM' sequels also revolved around his Troy character, and a considerably more buff Efron has continued to stir buzz with his performances in 'Hairspray,' 'Me and Orson Welles' and 'Charlie St. Cloud.'
Coming soon: His real-life romance with on-screen 'HSM' girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens is reportedly off, but, even after dropping out of the lead role in the upcoming 'Footloose' remake, he has a slate of nearly a dozen upcoming films, including 'The Lucky One,' adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, for which the actor gained 18 pounds to play a veteran of the war in Iraq; the romantic comedy 'New Year's Eve,' co-starring Robert De Niro and reportedly featuring cougar love between Efron and Michelle Pfieffer; and the 'Romeo and Juliet'-ish 'Die in a Gunfight.'
(Gabriella Montez)
Then: Hudgens was academic-minded Gabriella, who moved to East High in the middle of the school year, and quickly bonded with Troy and her new BFF, and fellow grades geek, Taylor. Gabriella also proved to be a talented singer and dancer, which did not endear her to plotting rich chick Sharpay, but Gabriella won the heart of Troy, performed in the school musical and excelled on the scholastic decathlon team, too, before heading off to Stanford in 'HSM.'
Since then: She released a pair of albums, including one that was certified gold, and weathered a couple of scandals when nude photos of her were released on the Interwebs without her permission. She also starred in the movie 'Bandslam' and was a spokesperson for Neutrogena and Mark Ecko, and was on Maxim and FHM's sexiest women alive lists, as well as Forbes magazine's "High Earners Under 30" list.
Coming soon: Her on-again, off-again relationship with Efron has made both the young stars tabloid staples, but 2011 will see the release of her much-anticipated 'Beauty and the Beast'-ish 'Beastly' movie, as well as the Zack Snyder 'Sucker Punch.' Hudgens is also co-starring in the upcoming 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' sequel 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' with Michael Caine, Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson and Luis Guzman.
(Sharpay Evans)
Then: The Tis may not have been the main female lead in the 'High School Musical' flicks, but she sure seemed to be the one having the most fun. Her self-absorbed, spoiled rich girl Sharpay was all about the fashion and the drama, and especially combining the two to be the center of attention. Her specific path to make all the East High heads turn was trying to land the lead in all school musicals, and woe to the person who purposefully or otherwise stood in her way, and since nice girl Gabriella had serious performance skills of her own, as well as the attention of hottie Troy, she was frequently the target of Sharpay's ire. Tisdale says she looked to Rachel McAdams' performance in 'Mean Girls' as inspiration for playing Sharpay.
Since then: Tisdale is currently co-starring with fellow Disney alum Aly Michalka in The CW cheerleading dramedy 'Hellcats' ...
Coming soon: ... and will also reprise her role as Sharpay in the Disney Channel spin-off movie 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure.' The direct-to-DVD flick, which premieres on DVD on April 19 and on the Disney Channel on May 20, finds Sharpay post-graduation, still fabulously attired and now trying to land a role on Broadway. 'Degrassi' star Lauren Collins co-stars, while Tisdale is also the movie's executive producer, and, with Relativity Media, is developing a Bravo reality series called 'Miss Advised.'
(Chad Danforth)
Then: Bleu was Troy's BFF and East High basketball teammate Chad, who stepped in with an "intervention" when his pal was focusing on the school musical instead of the big game. He and Troy make up, and then Chad starts dating Taylor, who he takes to the prom in 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year.'
Since then: Bleu, who originally auditioned for the role of Ryan Evans, is a singer and actor who has guest starred on 'The Good Wife' and 'Hannah Montana,' and starred in the short-lived CW drama 'The Beautiful Life,' with Mischa Barton. In 2010, he starred in the Tony-winning Broadway musical 'In the Heights.'
Coming soon: Later this year, he co-stars with '90210'-er Shenae Grimes in the big-screen drama 'Sugar.'
(Ryan Evans)
Then: Grabeel played Ryan, the fraternal twin, and frequent right-hand man of dirty work, to sis Sharpay. Though a talented singer and dancer who often starred with his sis in the school musicals (and liked to sport fancy hats), he's also a talented athlete, and a much kinder teen than his sib. In the second movie, when Sharpay abandons their partnership to co-star with Troy, Ryan steps out of her shadow and co-stars with Gabriella, eventually winning the Star Dazzle Award at the talent show.In the third movie, Ryan attends the prom with Kelsi and wins a scholarship to Juilliard.
Since then: Grabeel, who graduated from the same Missouri high school -- Kickapoo High in Springfield -- as Brad Pitt, has guest starred on series like 'The Cleveland Show,' 'Family Guy,' 'CSI,' 'Veronica Mars' and, most recently, 'Smallville,' where he played a young Lex Luthor. Grabeel also played photographer and Harvey Milk supporter Danny Nicoletta in the Oscar-winning flick 'Milk.'
Coming soon: He co-stars with Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris in writer/director Dustin Lance Black's 'What's Wrong with Virginia.'
(Taylor McKessie)
Then: She was smartie Taylor, president of the science club, eventual editor of the yearbook, and, in the third flick, Yale University student-to-be. Taylor also bonded with Gabriella after finding out she had also accomplished much in her academic pursuits before landing at East High.
Since then: She has guest starred on 'Bones' and 'The Cleveland Show,' hosts her own online talk show, 'Gimme Mo',' and finished in fourth place -- behind Joey Lawrence, Mario Lopez and winner Emmitt Smith -- on the third season of 'Dancing With the Stars.'
Coming soon: The dramedy film 'We Are Family,' in which she co-stars with 'The Apprentice' vet Omarosa.
(Martha Cox)
Then: Stroh, a dance teacher who took some of her students to audition for 'HSM' and was then asked by director Kenny Ortega to audition herself, played Martha, a member of East High's decathlon team who revealed she also loved to dance hip-hop. Martha also worked at the country club with the rest of the gang in 'High School Musical 2,' and went to the prom with Jason in 'High School Musical 3.'
Since then: She's guest starred on 'The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,' and lost 29 pounds, the third biggest weight loss, on the seventh season of VH1's 'Celebrity Fit Club,' where she was teammates with Kevin Federline. Stroh also got married in 2009, with 'HSM' co-stars Efron, Hudgens, Tisdale, Grabeel, Coleman, Olesya Rulin, Chris Warren Jr., Ryne Sanborn and director Ortega all in attendance.
Coming soon: She continues to be a model and spokesperson for Torrid plus-size clothing stores and recently guest-starred on FX's comedy 'The League.'
Bart Johnson
(Jack Bolton)
Then: Johnson was East High basketball coach Jack Bolton, also the father of hoops star Troy. Coach Bolton wasn't always happy with Troy's decisions -- to try out for the school musical or to attend the University of California at Berkley -- but he always found his way towards supporting his son's ambitions in the end.
Since then: He's guest starred on 'Eve' and 'Las Vegas.'
Coming soon: Johnson is a producer and co-star in the upcoming vampire dramedy 'Immortality Bites,' and is rumored to be starring in the next 'HSM' movie. He also has a role in the upcoming TNT drama series 'Bird Dog,' starring Gerald McRaney and Ashley Williams.
(Kelsi Nielsen)
Then: Rulin played East High's musical wiz Kelsi, who wrote songs for the winter musical. Despite her obvious talents, Kelsi was often intimidated by snooty Sharpay, though, in the end, it was Kelsi and Sharpay's bro, Ryan, who won the coveted spots at Juilliard.
Since then: Rulin starred in 'Major Movie Star,' the flick that didn't make a major movie star out of its lead, Jessica Simpson, and has guest-starred on 'CSI: Miami' and 'The Mentalist.' Currently, she plays Abby, the Zeta Beta pledge class president, on ABC Family's college dramedy 'Greek.'
Coming soon: She stars in the indie comedy 'A Family Weekend,' in which she plays a teen who holds her parents (played by Matthew Modine and Kristin Chenoweth) hostage so they'll pay attention to her.
Zeke Baylor
Then: He was East High basketball player Zeke, who, after pal Troy revealed he was a jock with a fondness for singing and dancing, revealed that he had a secret love, too: Baking!
Since then: He's guest starred on 'The Bernie Mac Show' and Disney Channel's 'Luck Charlie,' and he co-starred in 'Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel' on the big screen. Most recently, he played RJ nemesis Patterson on MTV's 'The Hard Times of RJ Berger.'
Coming soon: He's expected to return for season two of 'RJ Berger.'
Jason Cross
Then: He was Jason, Wildcat basketball star, friend of Troy and Chad and the guy known for asking silly questions in class.
Now: Since starring in 'HSM 3,' Sanborn -- who was named after professional baseball star Ryne Sandberg -- has been focusing on his hockey career. The Utah native, who aspires to play on the U.S. Olympic hockey team, travels around the country participating in the sport.
Coming soon: He's participating in the Luc Robitaille Celebrity Shoot Out all-star charity hockey event in Park City, Utah on Jan. 23.
