 Men of a Certain Age (Wednesday, 10/9c, TNT)

This wonderful drama about the trials and tribulations of three best friends and their midlife crises returns for the second half of its season two. The first six episodes finished in January.

What can we expect ? Joe ( Ray Romano), the divorced, slightly neurotic party-store owner and father of two, finds himself drawn into a friendship with his neighbor and former bookie, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Joe is also working hard to rekindle his professional golf career by training for a spot on the senior tour. Though he has managed to overcome his gambling problem, a new temptation arises.

Owen (Andre Braugher), who has a wonderful wife (LisaGay Hamilton) and three young children, is finally starting to assert himself after his father turned over the keys to the family automobile dealership. But so far, the job has been a nightmare. Resistant to the idea of retiring, Owen’s father (Richard Gant) constantly tries to undermine his authority and has told Owen that the dealership is financially in the red.

Terry (ScottBakula) has decided to give up his acting career and go to work for Owen as a car salesman, a job that seems well suited to his ample charms and need for stability. Terry also reconnected with Erin (Melinda McGraw), a woman who once played opposite him in a popular commercial. But their relationship has left him confused about the possibility of pursuing a life together.

Show Description:  "Switched at Birth," tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a working class neighborhood. Things come to a dramatic head when both families meet and struggle to learn how to live together for the sake of the girls.

CHRIS MELONI SAYS GOODBYE TO LAW & ORDER: SVU AFTER 12 SEASONS

I guess those negotiations didn’t quite go his way.  Chris Meloni who has played the often loose cannon sex crimes Detective Stabler will not be returning for season 13.  Creator Dick Wolf , who we all know has no problem axing an actor and replacing them before you can  blink is already looking for a big name to bring in opposite series regular Mariska Hargitay.

The season 12 series ended with Meloni’s character being forced to kill an armed teenage girl who had opened fire on her mother’s murderer (among others) in the SVU squad room.  I am sure the trauma of that event will play heavily in explaining his departure .

SHOWTIME CANCELS “UNITED STATES OF TARA

Showtime has decided not to renew “United States of Tara” after just three seasons. So, what does this mean for the fans of the series?  The June 20 season finale will now be its series finale.

On a positive note Showtime has renewed “Nurse Jackie” for a fourth season.

"THE MENTALIST" SEASON FINALE WAS AWESOME

“The Mentalist” season finale was completely awesome.  OK I know it aired a couple of nights ago, but I just got around to watching the episode today.  Now in all honesty I was two steps away from not returning for the 4^th season.  Why? I started to feel like it was a drain to watch the show week after week; the cases weren’t as entertaining and started to become a little predictable (“Castle” any one).  But, tonights  2hour episode was a complete game changer and it had me on the edge of my seat up until the final reveal and demise of Red John, well done Bradley Whitford. 

I don’t know if a lot of people were surprised that Patrick Jane shot and killed Red John in cold blood, but I wasn’t.  From day one he has said “I will kill Red John “and boy did he keep his word.  Creator Bruno Heller told TV Guide "We won't dodge any issues. Patrick won't wake up and discover it was all a dream. There will be consequences."

I am now so excited for next season, because I think the series really needed a game changer like this to shake up the series.  By the way I am not really sure that Jane killed the real Red John.  Once again great finale.

SNEAK PEEK: "TRUE BLOOD" 4TH SEASON

The fourth season of True Blood starts June 26, but believe it or not I have just started watching the series this month and boy am I enjoying this show.  I can't believe I am 3 seasons behind, especially with all the hype that has surrounded the series since day one.  Not having HBO is not enough of a an excuse, because I have never missed an episode of "Curb Your Enthusiam" and its on HBO. Also, considering my  obsessive affinity for anything that involves vampires, werewolves, witches and  my new favorite shapeshifters.

Ingo Rademacher(Jasper Jacks) has been let go after more than 15 years from ABC soap "General Hospital"  

 “It is with mixed emotions and regret that I write this note to you, my fans and colleagues,” the actor said in a statement. “After 15 years on GH portraying Jax I must say goodbye. I’m fired.”   No details regarding his last air date has been released.

I would like to say that I am sorry to hear this bit of news, but I am not.  I never really connected to this character at all and he was paired with the forever awesome Laura Wright.  However, I do wish Ingo and his family “Good Luck” and I am sure another soap will snatch him up really soon.

"GENERAL HOSPITAL" NAMES NEW HEAD WRITER

Brian Frons, president of Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group announced today that Garin Wolf has been named head writer of  one the few remaining daytime dramas "General Hospital.  Now a girl can only hope and dream that this will improve the soap.  I have watched "General Hospital" pretty much my whole life with few complaints, but I am so ready to bail right now. The soap has become so repetitive in its storytelling and I so hate this whole Brenda storyline.  Now, I will be honest I never watched the Brenda  and Sonny years, so I was not invested nor moved by the pending reunion of the two, however I was excited to finally see this couple I had heard so much about together again.

In one word I was completely "Disappointed".  I know this might sound a little insane considering I am talking about a soap opera, but that Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo is a little over the top in the acting category.

 At this point I am only tuning in for the Jason and Carly rerelationship, however my devotion to those two characters is wavering with each day that passes.

I really hope the first thing on Garin Wolf's agenda is to clean house on a lot of unnecessary characters(Olivia, Matt, Lisa, and Sioahan).  I know this will never happen, but if Dante and Kristina could just disappear into oblivion, it would be a great day in the world of Miss TV Girl.

WOW!!!!!!! - FOX CANCELS "HUMAN TARGET", "LIE TO ME", "BREAKING IN", "TRAFFIC LIGHT", AND "THE CHICAGO CODE

 Fox giveth and it taketh away. In the wake of picking up several new series to order, the network has axed five shows — the action-packed Human Target, crime dramas Lie to Me and The Chicago Code , and freshman comedies Breaking In and Traffic Light, Deadline reports.

Human Target, starring Mark Valley, only averaged 6.33 million viewers in its second season, while Lie to Me, headlined by Tim Roth, pulled in an average of 5.84 million viewers for Season 3.

First-year cop drama The Chicago Code averaged 6.77 million viewers in the 11 episodes aired so far. According to HitFix, the remaining episodes will still air. As for the Christian Slater workplace comedy Breaking In, it's averaged 7.83 million viewers over the five episodes that have aired. The relationship comedy Traffic Light has averaged 3.66 million viewers in its 11 outings.

"Thanks for all the kind words everyone. We tried to make the best show we could and we thank those of you who watched it," Chicago Code creator and showrunner, and former Lie to Me showrunner, Shawn Ryan tweeted late Tuesday. "Sounds like Lie To Me has been cancelled as well. My sympathies to all the talented people over there."


 In happier news, Fox is the first network to reveal its series orders for the comedies I Hate My Teenage Daughter and The New Girl and dramas Finder and Alcatraz.

In Teenage Daughter, two women (Jaime Pressly and Katie Finneran) fret that their daughters are turning into the type of girls who picked on them in high school. Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer will executive-produce. Eric Sheffer Stevens, Kristi Lauren, Aisha Coleman, Kevin Rahm and Chad Coleman will also star.

The New Girl (which TVGuide.com had spotlighted as one of its 11 Promising Pilots) stars Zooey Deschanel as a brokenhearted elementary school teacher who moves away from her ex and instead bunks with three unruly guys. She'll be the second Deschanel on the Fox network, joining her sister Emily who stars on Bones.


Speaking of Bones, the forensic drama's spin-off Finder follows a former military policeman (Geoff Stults) with the ability to find anything. Saffron Burrows and Michael Clarke Duncan also star. The characters were introduced in a Bones episode in April. Hart Hanson wrote the pilot and will executive-produce.

Finally, Alcatraz centers on a cop (Sarah Jones) and a team of FBI agents who track down a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners and guards who reappear in the present day after disappearing 30 years earlier. J.J. Abrams will executive-produce and Liz Sarnoff (Lost) will be the showrunner. Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill, Jonny Coyne, Jason Butler Harner, Parminder Nagra, Santiago Cabrera and Robert Forster also star.

Upon hearing the news, Emmy winner Susan Lucci, who has starred on All My Children for the past four decades, released the following statement, “It's been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.”


 In Children's place, ABC will slot The Chew, a one-hour live show centered on food and hosted by restaurateurs Mario Batali and Michael Symon, Top Chef's Carla Hall , What Not to Wear's Clinton Kelly and nutrition expert Daphne Oz. ABC says the Gordon Elliot (Paula's Home Cooking, Down Home with the Neelys) production will "focus on food from every angle — as a source of joy, health, family ritual, friendship, breaking news, dating, fitness, weight loss, travel adventures and life's moments." Sounds yummy, but is it as yummy as Children?


Meanwhile, come January, The Revolution will take up the space left by One Life. That show will feature Project Runway's Tim Gunn, trainer Harley Pasternak and Kimberly Locke, who completed in the second season of American Idol. These hosts and a revolving pool of contributors will "help viewers transform all areas of their lives, from relationships to family, food, style, home design, finance and more," according to ABC's announcement. The Revolution will also include a different woman's five-month weight-loss story rolled out over the course of each week's new shows.

General Hospital now stands as the last remaining daytime drama on ABC. The cancellation of these soaps follows the axing of CBS' Guiding Light and As the World Turns in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

The TV Land Awards 2011, which, for the first time in the award show’s nine-year history, was held in New York.  The show, which premieres on TV Land on Sunday, April 17 at 9pm ET/PT, kicked off with a surprise performance by legendary entertainer Liza Minnelli, who performed her  rendition of the classic tune “New York, New York.”  Barbara Walters, Stevie Wonder, Ben Stiller, Jane Lynch, Paul Reiser, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the cast of “The Real Housewives of New York” joined in on the extravaganza at the Jacob Javits Center to honor: entertainment icon Regis Philbin (Legend Award), platinum recording artists Daryl Hall and John Oates (Music Icon Award), and the beloved casts of “The Cosby Show” (Impact Award), “Family Ties” (Fan Favorite Award), “Welcome Back, Kotter” (35^th Anniversary Award) and “The Facts of Life” (Pop Culture Award).

The tribute awards included the following:

35^th ANNIVERSARY AWARD
Emmy® Award-winner Jane Lynch, whose own hit show “Glee” takes place at a high school, presented the cast of “Welcome Back, Kotter” with the 35^th Anniversary Award. Golden Globe®-winner and two-time Academy Award® nominee John Travolta reunited with co-stars Gabe Kaplan, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Robert Hegyes, Ellen Travolta and Marcia Strassman to accept the award for the popular edgy sitcom which ran from 1975-1979.

THE IMPACT AWARD
Presented by musical prodigy Stevie Wonder, The Impact Award is given to a show that offered both entertainment and enlightenment, with comedy that reflected reality. “The Cosby Show” cast – Bill Cosby, Phylicia Rashad, Tempestt Bledsoe, Sabrina LeBeauf, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Raven Symone, Geoffrey Owens and Malcolm-Jamal Warner – accepted the award.

THE LEGEND AWARD
A legend herself, Barbara Walters presented this award to Regis Philbin (“LIVE! with Regis and Kelly,” “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”), whose career in television has spanned over 50 years and two Emmy® Awards.

THE MUSIC ICON AWARD
Popular television star Paul Reiser presented this award to “Rock ‘N Soul” pioneers and platinum recording artists Daryl Hall and John Oates. The duo received the award for their contribution to music, having sold over 60 million albums worldwide and eight number one singles throughout their long and successful careers. Daryl Hall and John Oates also performed three of their number one singles – “Rich Girl,” “Kiss on My List” and “You Make My Dreams.”
 
THE POP CULTURE AWARD
Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick – the stars of TV Land’s “Hot In Cleveland” – presented “The Facts of Life” cast, including Charlotte Rae, Mindy Cohn, Kim Fields, Nancy McKeon, Lisa Whelchel, Cloris Leachman and Geri Jewell, with The Pop Culture Award.  Their memorable characters along with that catchy theme song made “The Facts of Life” soar to pop culture status in the 1980s.

THE FAN FAVORITE AWARD
The Fan Favorite Award was presented to the “Family Ties” cast by comedian extraordinaire Ben Stiller. The show won the hearts of viewers everywhere as the fictional Keaton family humorously struggled to deal with a new generation gap and political differences in the 1980s. Cast members Michael J. Fox, Michael Gross, Meredith Baxter, Justine Bateman, Tina Yothers, Tracy Pollan and Marc Price accepted, and singer Billy Vera gave a moving performance of “At This Moment.”
Now in its ninth year, the “TV Land Awards 2011″ pays tribute to classic and contemporary luminaries of television, music and movies.  The ninety-minute telecast will feature exhilarating tributes to some of the most iconic television casts and musical performers.

"BURN NOTICE: THE FALL OF SAM AXE" PREMIERES SUNDAY, APRIL 17

BURN NOTICE: THE FALL OF SAM AXE, starring Bruce Campbell, will premiere Sunday, April 17 at 9/8c on USA Network. The prequel film to USA's smash hit series takes place in Columbia 2005 when Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe (Campbell) is sent to advise a local military platoon. It's there he discovers deep layers of deception and ultimately realizes he may be allied with the wrong side. Shot on location in Bogota, Columbia, the two hour movie is directed by BURN NOTICE star Jeffrey Donovan.

Syfy has acquired both seasons (31 episodes) of the acclaimed fan-favorite Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, it was announced today by Chris Regina, Vice President, Programming, Syfy, and Tom Cerio, Executive Vice President, Cable Sales, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

With Terminator 3 as the lead-in, the series will join the Syfy line-up on Thursday, April 7 with two episodes from 9-11PM (ET/PT). The regular time slot will be Thursdays from 7-11PM (ET/PT).

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles brought the blockbuster Terminator movie franchise to television in an action-adventure drama taking place after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The series reveals what happens when Sarah Connor (series star Lena Headey - upcoming Game of Thrones, 300, The Brothers Grimm) stops running and goes on the offensive against an ever-evolving technological enemy. At the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Sarah vanquished the Terminator sent from the future to kill her teenage son, John.
